This growth has led to a new VAT vacancy being created in the UK office, with the company looking to hire an Indirect Tax adviser to handle a diverse workload, including cross border international VAT work. Reporting directly to the Indirect Tax Manager, your overall objective will be to ensure that the company and its subsidiaries comply with their indirect tax obligations (including reporting of imports and exports) in all the countries in which they operate. The role in brief: Supervision of the quarterly UK VAT group return preparation process, to include regular review of risk areas and identification of process improvements. Monitoring compliance of overseas VAT / GST obligations (e.g. Romania, Singapore). Monitoring compliance with energy tax obligations. Monitoring compliance with “importer / exporter of record” reporting requirements, including liaison with external customs agents. Dealing with enquiries from the business and from tax authorities regarding indirect tax matters. Working with Front Office to ensure early identification of tax requirements and required controls / processes for any ongoing compliance requirements. Working with Back Office to ensure early identification of tax requirements and required controls / processes which have synergies with proposed Back Office process improvements, including implementation of new IT systems. Helping to implement controls to avoid MTIC frauds. Any other support as required by the Indirect Tax Manager. Ideal Candidate Profile: ATT and/or CTA qualified. Significant experience in the energy industry of: - European VAT and other indirect taxes in a cross-border context, preferably gained in a commercial environment; and - European VAT and other indirect taxes in relation to supplies to end users. Experience of dealing with all aspects of the importation/exportation of physically traded energy products. Energy trading experience. Good working knowledge of finance systems (NaVision or SAP would be an advantage). Effective written and verbal communication skills. Fluent in English. Other European language skills would be a benefit (particularly French, German or Russian). |
